The influence of various ecosystems – Cerrado (savanna), Chaco (Pantanal) and the Amazon – in conjunction with annual cycles of floods and droughts as well as high temperatures, makes the Pantanal the place with the largest concentration of fauna in the Americas. Its biodiversity includes over 650 different species of birds, 262 of fish, 1,100 types of butterflies, 80 species of mammals, 50 reptile species and more than 1,700 species of plants. Due to its enormous dimension and biodiversity, the Pantanal has very specific characteristics that vary according to regions.
