Although Brazil may be best known for its powerful beach breaks, Florianopolis and the south of the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina have a diverse mix of points and rivermouths as well, providing a tremendous variety of waves suitable for all levels of surfers, making Floripa the ideal location for your Brazil surf holiday. The island has a culture that is deeply intertwined with surfing, something that makes a surf holiday in Brazil an even more incredible experience for those that live and breathe surfing. The ideal location in Rio is second to none, offering the likes of tropical beaches, uncrowded waves, and consistent swells year round. There are several serene and beautiful beach breaks to choose from, ranging from beginner to advanced depending on ability and experience. Due to the geography of Rio there is consitantly good swell. The coast line is facing directly south and due to the the southern hemisphere angular spread there is always waves. Rio De Janeiro is one of the most diverse cities in the world. Copacabana and Ipanema have beautiful beaches and a great atmosphere. There is also another side to Rio that is somewhat untouched, preserved, and pristine. Recreio is the untouched part that travelers have yet to discover. All the locals know about it, this is a place where you can get away from the city and into a tropical paradise filled with palm trees, secluded bush walks, and perfect waves. The waves provide warm water, Hawaiian-style tubes and offshore winds all day, making for some excellent surfing conditions. For such a small island, the place has a lot of good quality waves to choose from. Cacimba do Padre is the best in Brazil and has been the home to an annual competition for the professional world tour of surfing. The visual is as good as it gets and the waves break close to the shore on a sand bottom. Other good places to surf include Abras, Boldro, Conceicao, Meio and Cachorro. When the swell is big enough, Ilha da Rata just offshore from the port, has a long peeling wave comparable to Honalua Bay on Maui.
